It’s easy to see why he’s such an inspiration. At just 23, KD brings such a grounded, mature perspective to the table. In our conversation for Day 2: You Cannot Give What You Do Not Have, we really dived into why self-nurturance isn’t just “nice to have,” but a mechanical necessity for anyone—especially for a young artist in the spotlight.
Music as a Sanctuary: KD shared that music is his ultimate outlet. When he’s exhausted from taping, he returns to his guitar or headphones to process his fears and frustrations [03:08].
The “Empty Cup” Philosophy: We talked about how the world celebrates the “tireless giver,” but KD is very clear that he cannot show up for his family or his fans if his own “cup” is empty. For him, a “me day” involving working out and reading sci-fi (like Dune!) is non-negotiable [05:33].
Mental Health Advocacy: KD opened up about his experiences with depression, both inside the Pinoy Big Brother house and in his personal life. He emphasized that mental health is just as critical as physical health and that no one should be ashamed to seek professional help [12:28].
Filtering the Noise: Being in his 20s in the age of social media isn’t easy. KD spoke about learning to view public “bashing” as “smoke and mirrors”—realizing that the opinions of people who don’t truly know him cannot define his worth [10:02].
Owning Agency: One of my favorite insights from him was about not “outsourcing” your happiness. He believes your happiness must come from within, otherwise, relationships can become “parasitic” and draining [06:38].
KD even shared a beautiful snippet of Chris Stapleton’s “Weight of Your World,” which perfectly captured the spirit of the episode—learning to lay down those heavy burdens so you can finally breathe [15:01].
As I always say, clarity isn’t something you find; it’s something you come home to. KD is a wonderful example of someone doing that deep work to come home to himself.
How does KD’s take on “non-negotiable me-time” resonate with your own daily routine?
